Fishing Grounds

The Granton & Leith trawlers fished mostly the banks of the northern North Sea, and around Orkney, Fair Isle and Shetland.

Some skippers preferred to fish the Faeroe grounds including the Faeroe Bank more than others, looking for quality fish for a better market price. Some of these ventured further afield to South East Iceland during the summer months.

During the summer months trips to Rockall, St Kilda and Eagle Island ( West Coast of Ireland) were undertaken, Catches were landed at Ardrossan, Oban & Ayr.

The area marked cream is where the early trawlers fished.
